2010 Cabernet, Merlot & Malbec Wairarapa

TASTING NOTES from Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2011
Fruity and generously flavoured, this Cabernet blend displays fragrant aromas of red/dark plum, game and dried herbs. The palate is rounded and smooth with nicely pitched supple tannins providing a pleasant dry finish.

WINEMAKER’S NOTE
The 2010 season has been very cool and wet. Late flowering and cool temperatures brought us a bad fruitset and low yields. To produce a high quality red wine a lot of intensive manual vineyard work is neccessary. The fruits for this wine were hand picked beginning of May, in the winery the berries were selected again on a sorting table to ensure that only the sane berries are manufactured to wine. The fermentation on the skins took two weeks to extract the colour and supple tannins. After fermentation the wine was aged for 12 months in new (30%) used (70%) oak. We bottled the wine unfiltered in Dezember 2011.

  1. Phil Hone says:

Just enjoyed an absolutely superb bottle of the Cabernet, Merlot & Malbec. The smell was exotic, the taste better than the nose, and such a cascade of flavours.
Well done to Karl and the team.
