From mature vines grown on a small, hillside vineyard in Wairarapa. Dense ripe red with an appealing structure of fine, ripe tannins. The wine has an attractive, slightly floral aroma and tastes that echo the floral character plus red berry, mint and cedar. Surprisingly good red given the latitude. The Lyndor vineyard is clearly one to watch.
This is a wine from our single vineyard “Lyndor”. The vineyard was planted 1986 on a pure lime soil by an English rose grower in the hills between Gladstone and Masterton. He planted the three varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in equal parts. As the vines are old, crop levels are naturally low and crop reduction is just individually neccessary. The grapes were picked by hand and sorted on a sorting table in the winery. The fermentation on the skins took four weeks to extract the colour and supple tannins. After fermentation the wine was aged for 14months in 100% new oak. We bottled the wine unfiltered in August 2009.
